Playback Theatre at Bluebells School International

Saturday, July 16, 2022, saw us conducting a special Playback Theatre performance for the teaching fraternity of Bluebells School International, Delhi. The theme for the day was ‘Uncomfortable Spaces’ as we navigated through the tough reality of work-life balance and teaching after schools have reopened physically. What ensued for two hours of an emotional roller coaster where we laughed, cried, reveled and mellowed as a unit. The performance seemed to build a community where all teachers, old and new, got to know each other beyond their conventional roles as colleagues and started to understand each other’s personal journeys. Playback Theatre is an improvisational artform where actors perform the stories by audiences spontaneously. It is conducted by a conductor who holds the space for everyone and a musician who accompanies with the background score, setting the mood and emotional wavelength for the story and the room. Our group has been doing Playback actively for over 5 years and this was our first on-ground performance for nearly 10 months. It was a special feeling to be on-ground after a long break owing to Covid. What was even more special was the fact that we performed at Bluebells School International, our long-time partner for various programs like Theatre for Change and Threads of Humanity.
